Invent This!

Sometimes people need a push — to get their lives in order, to step things up at their job or take a step towards commitment. I have witnessed this a lot over the past few weeks. I guess the thing which surprises me is the ability that some people have to be creative, or to find solutions to complex problem but don’t.

I’m not sure why that is. I mean, if you know you can contribute more than why not do it? If you have something to say, why not say it?

I use this cliche at least twice a week — life it short. Why waste yours and everyone else’s time by only giving 50%?

The reinvention process is a funny one. See, it happens really, really fast. Overnight, even. This again leads me to the question posed above.. If you CAN change why DON’T you change.

Wordle Cloud of the Internet Marketing Blog - ...

Sometimes I think blogging is just good to do as a creative exercise. Since I work in marketing, its sometimes hard to reconcile the idea of wanting to create for fun verses creating to sell something, or achieve some goal.

I often get asked (and it seems recently more and more, at least 4 times in the past 2 days) why I blog on my own site and what I do, if anything, to promote said blog.

I have no goal – I just like to write! And if people read what I write well, that’s awesome. But I don’t write these posts for other people and I think that is okay too. Most of the time, I write stuff that only interests me, or a small subset of people. Other times, I’ll write something that maybe I think is really smart, or funny, and I’ll toss a link out on Twitter or to my Facebook friends.

The internet in general has become absurdly commercial. Everything is about making a buck or developing a monetization strategy. People have become obsessed with this idea of personal branding, being a celebrity (on the Internet) and the four hour work week. Some try to be experts, while others think their content should be paid for.

Here is an idea – blog for the fun of it. Say something interesting but don’t do so just to get a reward out of it. Whatever happened to that?
